Dear Friends of the South Benton Food Pantry,
Recent federal actions have led to the cancellation of national food contracts, impacting both school lunch programs and food banks, including here in Oregon and our partner, Linn Benton Food Share. These changes will primarily affect “Bonus” USDA foods, which supplement the core food supply we receive.

ANNOUNCING "GROW A ROW"
ANNOUNCING "GROW A ROW"

South Benton Food Pantry is empowering the community to directly address local food insecurity with its “Grow a Row” initiative, which is especially crucial in light of recent USDA cutbacks to grants and farmers.
To make participation even easier, the Food Pantry is now offering free seeds, seedlings (about to sprout), and even some growing pots to residents who want to get involved.
“We understand that not everyone has a large garden, but every little bit helps,” says Robin Frojen, the contact person for the “Grow a Row” initiative. “By providing seeds, seedlings, and pots, we hope to remove barriers and enable more people to participate, whether it’s planting an extra row in a large garden or nurturing a single pot on a balcony.”

FOOD PANTRY SNACK PACK PROGRAM
For many children, the weekend can be a time of fun and relaxation. But for some, it can also mean facing food insecurity. That’s where the SNACK PACK PROGRAM steps in, providing a vital lifeline to students at Monroe Grade School.
Since 2021, the Snack Pack program has been quietly working to ensure that children at Monroe Grade School have access to food over the weekend. As of February 2025, we are providing Snack Packs to about 87 children.
“Rising food costs have made this one of our more expensive programs,” explains Janeece Cook, SBFP Executive Director. “But we know how important it is to address weekend hunger, and we’re committed to continuing this vital service.”
